Traced some Tulio faces, then modified them to get Took! Took differs from Tulio in his more angular jaw line, ridiculous (RIDICULOUS) hairstyle, bigger/taller ears, bags under the eyes, weird forked eyebrows, and upturned nose, so I worked those in to see what I’d get. Even though all those traits sound ugly/weird, all together on the “Tulio” base they actually look cute and funny! I learned a lot from doing this! I’m not sure yet if it’s quite perfect since it’s not truly my style, but it’s fun to look at. I need to do these more often. I particularly like the shape of the eyes–they’re way more expressive that the eyes I usually draw.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I promised myself I wouldn’t go into rabid fangirl mode, for Lonja’s sake but it’s SO hard not to! He looks amazing!!! It is the bags under the eyes that makes it. Ahhhhhhh the toothy grin one is just ahhhhhhhhhh he looks incredible. It’s not fangirling if I use granny terms, right? I just want to eat him up! I think…. i THINK you should draw more like this please.

I tried popping one of these heads onto a body I’ve drawn for him and it did NOT mesh well with my style D: So, I’m going to have to keep playing around to see how much of this I can actually incorporate. I think I really just need to do a lot of copying to expand my tastes and break away from the rote.
Sometimes this IS really helpful. I know when I drew a ton of Korra art it really helped me not fall back on a lot of Disney shortcuts.

Not only it is an amazing face, but you have to know the wheels turning in his head are churning out something wonderful/horrible all at once.
YES hahaha! Maybe this is the face he made when he introduced Lonja as his apprentice for the first time. He’s making a dashing face at Lonja but also proud of himself for worming out of his scandal. XD

Haha, glad you think so! I was surprised to realize that Tulio has very weird ears. They stick out a lot, but they’re…weirdly low on his head? So I just extended them up and they were perfect. XD

OK, I have to say something because I’m not sure how I feel about it.
I was talking to my supervisor (soft-spoken sassy guy Matt XD ) about how I only really watch animated movies, because I feel like they’re safer and aren’t going to surprise me with inappropriate content, and he brought up The Road to El Dorado as an animated movie that is unexpectedly…adult. And while I was looking for references for this sheet, I kept finding all these outraged commentaries about how inappropriate the movie is. Now I’m embarrassed I like it so much! D: But…I still love it. Warts and all. That’s my weird confession.
