Stylin’ (or not)

I’ve been trying to experiment with styles for Krissy/Spark–both wardrobe and drawing style. Here’s a study I initially did to compare how I draw Krissy (really bony and angular, no meat) to Spark (curvier, fuller…I forced myself to use the Krissy base and draw Spark’s features on top, and it looks all wrong), but I also used it as a mannequin to try out a uniform idea. The first version is her wearing it properly, and the second is the way I think it would look by the end of the day: rolled up sleeves, loosened tie, untucked shirt.

And this is a cartoony style study 😀 I was inspired by this person specifically, but I didn’t pull it off as I’d hoped. Things I was trying for this look: Big hair, round eyes, large head ratio, delicate limbs, little feet and hands, exaggerated clothes shapes (specifically her boots).

HAH! I LOVE the way you can tell her different moods and so much about her personality just by her clothes! Even though the pose is the same the progression of her school uniform, the outfit she’d choose for herself and her superhero outfit all say so much about her. This is great! And the pose is really nice too because the popped hip and sassy hands are kinda edgy but the pigeon toes still make her seem youthful and goofy.

LOOK AT THOSE CHUBBY CHEEKS I JUST LOVE HER @_@ I barely found that artist on tumblr but all I’d seen was his animation, not his blog. I think you did a great job taking something away from his style but still making it your own. I LOVE THIS ROUND FACE SNUBBED NOSE Krissy/Spark dearly. <3 <3 too cute!

I’m so glad you like! I’m trying to experiment with lots of styles because I don’t like my work to look samey. Like, Vahaadi’s eye shape is supposed to be very distinctive, but because I draw him the most, I find myself defaulting to his eye style when I draw other characters. It bugs me!
