Am I Crazy or Falling in Love?

“And speaking of Spark, who is indeed a menace, I found myself wondering lately…what would she do if Vahaadi seriously fell in love with her? I mean, it’s weird to think about because he’s so much older, but we were saying that Vahaadi needs a girl reincarnation of Tryvnah and my brain just canNOT see that happening…I dunno, maybe something could happen with them. Then again, maybe not, maybe that’s too much, just a thought. I think what I’m most curious about is how she would handle realizing that she was the object of someone’s “ooey gooey romancey” affection. Would it delight her? Scare her? Annoy her? Exasperate her? All of the above?”
Something happened for the first time
Deep inside
It was a rush
What a rush
‘Cause the possibility
That you would ever feel the same way
About me
It’s just too much
Just too much
Why do I keep running from the truth?
All I ever think about is you
You got me hypnotized
So mesmerized
And I’ve just got to know
Do you ever think
When you’re all alone
All that we could be?
Where this thing could go?
Am I crazy or falling in love?
Is it real or just another crush?
Do you catch a breath
When I look at you?
Are you holding back
Like the way I do?
‘Cause I’m trying, trying to walk away
But I know this crush ain’t going
Away
Going away
Has it ever crossed your mind
When we’re hanging,
Spending time, girl, are we just friends?
Is there more?
Is there more? (Is there more)
See it’s a chance we’ve gotta take
‘Cause I believe that we can make this
Into something that’ll last
Last forever
Forever
lyrics to “Crush” by David Archuleta
“Thanks, Vahaadi. I love you too!”

“No, Spark. I’m in love with you.”

“What! Stop kidding around, Vahaadi. Do you even know what that means? That’s like when people want to get married. Like Flint and Opal. We don’t love each other like THAT.”

“No, no, no. You love Lanthriel, remember? I kinda wish you didn’t love him like that, but there’s no way you could love me instead!”
“Isn’t there?”
“NO! No, there’s not! I mean, that’s just crazy! You and I have always been best friends! But… you know. JUST best friends.”
“Spark.”
“Yes?”
“Come here.”
“Okay.”

“You’re serious! WHAT, VAHAADI!? Just… NO! I usually adore surprises, and I… I adore YOU, but this is just– NO! You’re supposed to be my best friend!”

“I mean, how could you think that you and I, that we…”
“I will always be your best friend. But can’t best friends be even better friends?”

“I. Guess. I don’t know! I mean, this is just CRAZY!”

“Not that I haven’t, you know, thought about it. Vahaadi, sometimes I secretly wished that you WOULD fall in love with me, even though I don’t really know what that means. Sometimes I would get so scared of losing you and I would miss you so much that I would even be willing to change our friendship into something more just so you and I can be together. But the thing is, even if you love me like that, I don’t know how to love you! I see the way you’ve wanted Tryvnah and Lanthriel to love you and I… I can’t do that for you.”

“Why’d you have to go and fall in love AGAIN? Why did you have to pick me?”

“But, Spark, please. I love you.”
How many times had Vahaadi been rejected? How many times had Spark seen his eyes follow Lanthriel everywhere, only to finally be acknowledged by the man with harsh disapproval? How many times had Vahaadi pined for Tryvnah, only to be ignored? How many times had other lovers let him down or cast him aside? If Spark told him no, would he run away like he had from the others and would she lose him forever? Was it even possible for things to stay the way they were? Or would Vahaadi’s eyes watch her with the same wounded, hungry look that he had when he saw Lanthriel? The thought of that was worse than the thought of being in love. It was worse than every horrible thing she had pictured when she thought about Vahaadi leaving her because he was bored or had found love in someone else.

“UGH! Vahaadi, don’t look at me like that! This is a MESS!”
…
“Or it could be our greatest adventure yet.”
“Spark, think about it. What greater adventure could we have than falling in love? It would be an exciting journey, and we could go on it forever! Wouldn’t you like that?”

“Oh my gosh. Vahaadi. You’re RIGHT! You’re totally and completely right! And TRUST ME, the only person with whom I’d ever go on an adventure like this is you. This is fantastic! But you’ll have to teach me how to do all that romancy stuff. I’m not going to have a clue what to do. Just, Vahaadi? Promise me one thing.”
“Anything, my pet.”
“Promise me you’ll make it fun.”
